S.W.E.A.T.

Congratulations to Ellie Tatel, one of 1100 students—approximately 330 women—who has been accepted to the U.S. Air Force Academy, Class of 2029.

STRENGTH

Ellie’s physical competence was tested and proven during her Air Force admissions exam. From a shuttle run to a one-mile run, to repetitions of push-ups, pull-ups, and crunches—even throwing a basketball at least 40 feet while kneeling, Ellie exceeded expectations in every category.
More so, Ellie’s strength of character is reflected by her core belief and career choice: Service before self.

WANT

Ellie started volunteering as a red ball instructor for the Tiny Tots program five years ago. Wanting very much to emulate USCTDP teaching pros, she pursued PTR certification and is now a member of the Professional Tennis Registry and USCTDP’s teaching staff.
Ellie’s want was clear from the beginning: To give back by instilling a passion for the game of tennis. Acquiring more knowledge and communicating more effectively were natural outcomes. Ellie’s “want” was the Program’s gift.

ENDURANCE

Ellie believes she’s at her best—best physical, best mental, best emotional self—during the summer months because of the Program’s enduring grind: 3-hour clinics, 6 days a week.
The “willingness of work” is not for everybody, but it is the signature of this champion.

ATTITUDE

Ellie’s attitude is best demonstrated when responding to disappointment: “Work harder. Come back stronger. Never complain.”
To ensure she remained a positive influence on her teammates as Captain of Mt. Lebanon Girls’ Tennis Team, Ellie modelled: “I love tennis, I love the work…even when I’m not feeling it.” Coach Chad Brown observed, “With Ellie as Captain, there was never a scene… Ellie was behind closed doors, quashing any negative vibe, always focusing on the big picture.”

TENACITY

In a world dominated by social media, Ellie remained unfazed by external influences, always staying true to herself. Ellie’s drive and determination are characterized by this sentiment:
“When you give your all, regardless of circumstance—winning or losing—leave no doubt in anyone’s mind that you are a winner.”
